Theo John is a defensive monster for Howard Pulley. Over the weekend at the Howard Pulley Invitational he averaged close to 3 blocks a game.

We caught up with the c/o 2017 PF at the Invitational. Luckily, he didn’t block us from getting an interview.

FloHoops: What’s your official height?
Theo John: 6’9”

How do you feel about your undefeated season thus far?
It’s been a great season. We’ve been really working as a team, locking down on defense, concentrating at practice, and that’s really been the thing that’s separated us from the competition.

What’s been the toughest game you guys have had?
They’ve all been tough. Playing in the EYBL circuit, you’re never in a game that’s going to be a blowout. Each game is close and it’s a battle. There have been games where we’ve been up by 20 but that can change any minute. Each team we’ve played against has great players.

What aspects of your game are you working on?
All-around, but I’m focusing mainly on my ball handling and my jumpshot. Just be a little more patient in the post. I know I have the skillset, I just need to put it to use and not rushing my shots.

Who do you model your game after?
I try to take a little bit from everybody. With my footwork, I’m watching a lot of tape on Hakeem Olajuwon, Tim Duncan, and others. When I’m working on the guard aspects, I watch the greats; Kobe, etc.

What position do you want to be in college?
I want to be a mis-matched 4. If a bigger guy is guarding me, I’m going to take him to the lane. If a smaller guy is guarding me, I’m going to take him to the post.

Which colleges have you gotten offers from so far?
Minnesota, Marquette, Nebraska, Illinois, Iowa, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Kansas State, and a few more.

What’s your narrow list?
I haven’t narrowed it down. It’s still an open book to where I’ll be making my decision.

What are the top three things you’re looking for?
A coach that’ll believe in me, put me in a position to succeed. I want a good environment, good culture, good people. I want to be a good environment away from negative situations. Distance doesn’t really matter to me. I’m willing to go across the world to get better. Another key thing I’m looking for is academics. I’m looking to get pushed academically to earn a degree.
