The Women's Basketball tournament kicked off and as expected, the United States looked dominant. Actually, I don't even know if there's a word that exists in the english language that properly describes their performance. Dominant seems understated.
This was never going to be a competitive matchup. While it's great that Senegal qualified for the Olympics, they didn't belong on the same court as the American team. They were just out matched and out played.
Diana Taurasi, arguably the best American woman to ever step on the court, was lights out early on. She hit four from behind the arc in the opening period. She was aided by the play of Brittney Griner and Delle Donne, who are both just too tough and talented. Delle Donne's ability to play anywhere on the court opened the American's offense up.
The final score was 121-56, a new Olympic scoring record.
