No. 4 Memphis East Still Striving For Greatness

Memphis East Still Striving For Greatness

Memphis East has taken a little break from the national spotlight, but its foot is still on the gas. The team's domination has continued, even without the exposure.

So what if the No. 4 Mustangs haven’t played a ranked squad since mid-January? They had other business to take care of.

Since losing to Sierra Canyon at the Bass Pro Shops Tournament of Champions, Penny Hardaway’s team has rattled off 13 straight, including an 84-66 thumping of Whitehaven in the district championship.

Although Memphis East is not eligible to play in Dick’s Nationals this season, it has its eyes set on local greatness. That continues Thursday in the regional championship against Southwind.

The success of the Mustangs (28-3) might be a surprise to some. But make no mistake about it, this team is for real, and players like junior guard Alex Lomax will continue to make it known.
