Another week, another slew of 2017 commitments. Flo40 forward Jaren Jackson certainly made the biggest splash with a pledge to Michigan State on his birthday, but there were several other noteworthy decisions across the country.
Marquette had a solid week with commitments -- they inked Champlin Park (MN) forward Theo John and Cornerstone (MI) guard Jamal Cain. Connecticut landed DeMatha Catholic (MD) big man Josh Carlton, and Dayton scored a tough point guard in Champlin Park's McKinley Wright.
In Power 5 verbals, Nebraska picked up Bolingbrook (IL) forward Nana Akenten, Texas A&M got a quality prospect in Alvin (TX) guard Savion Flagg, Christ The King (NY) point guard Jose Alvarado went off the board to Georgia Tech, Texas Tech picked up a junior college guard in Hyron Edwards from Trinity Valley CC (TX), and Miami (FL) went abroad to secure Sam Waardenburg from New Zealand.
The Big Winner: Michigan State. This seems like an easy pick, given the Spartans picked up the only Flo40 prospect of the week, but the 6-foot-10 Jackson is an instant-impact player with length, athleticism, and a well-rounded skill set. It's a great start to 2017 for head coach Tom Izzo.
