Michael Porter Jr. Wins Gatorade POY, Requests Release From Washington
Michael Porter Jr. might be back on the market after requesting a release from Washington.
What's next for Michael Porter Jr.? Where will he play college basketball? When will the nation's top player make an announcement? The questions, the rumors, the curiosity, it never stops.
That's the life of the 6-foot-10 small forward right now. All eyes are on his next big decision.
However, for a few brief moments Wednesday, the outside noise went away when the Nathan Hale (WA) star was surprised with the Gatorade Player of the Year award at his home in Seattle, just two days after he was tabbed as the top player in Washington.
It was a great moment. A very deserving one, too, after Porter helped lead the No. 1 Raiders to a perfect 29-0 season and the Washington Class 3A state championship. He was also named the Naismith Trophy National Player of the Year last week.
Then, it was back to reality.
After accepting the award, Porter announced he will request a release from his letter of intent at Washington and weigh his options.

The story gets bigger. The plot thickens. That's the nature of the game.
A week ago, FloHoops ran a Twitter poll following the news of the firing of Huskies coach Lorenzo Romar, Porter's godfather, after 15 seasons with the program, and the reports of his father, Michael Porter Sr., considering taking an assistant coaching vacancy under newly hired Cuonzo Martin at Missouri.

Nothing is official. It remains a mystery. There's a chance Porter will participate in the McDonald's All American Game next week in Chicago and the Jordan Brand Classic in Brooklyn on April 14 before anything happens.
Still, it's only a matter of time before a decision will be made.
Still, all eyes will be on Porter to see what happens next.
That's the life of the best high school player in the country right now.
