While Kansas was enjoying another Big 12 regular-season title and stellar Elite Eight run in this year's NCAA Tournament, the team's two freshmen were building a resume of success to get ready to add to the program's storied history.

Although KU's 2017 recruiting class is the smallest head coach Bill Self has signed since 2010, guard Marcus Garrett and Flo40 forward Billy Preston will be expected to make just as big of an impact for the Jayhawks this upcoming season.

It all starts with a four-game trip to Italy next week, which can be seen live on FloHoops.

Garrett, a 6-foot-5 point guard from Dallas (Texas) Skyline, arrived on campus this summer after nearly averaging a triple-double his senior year with 17.3 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 9.1 assists per game. He notched 12 triple-doubles and 32 double-doubles to lead Skyline to a 34-2 record and an appearance at the Texas Class 6A state semifinals for the first time in school history.

One of the team's biggest wins was over Norman North (OK) and Oklahoma star freshman point guard Trae Young during the Thanksgiving Hoopfest.



A 6-foot-10 athletic power forward, Preston entered the program as the higher-ranked prospect (Flo40 No. 18) after averaging a double-double at Oak Hill Academy (VA) and earning invites to the McDonald's All American Games and Jordan Brand Classic.

He started it off with a monster performance at the Phenom Hoops Showcase against Word of God (NC) and North Carolina freshman big man Brandon Huffman.
