Marvin Bagley III announced he will forego his senior high school season and play for Duke in 2017-18.
If anyone wants to know what winning the college basketball lottery looks like in August, direct your attention to Duke University. Marvin Bagley III will be there soon.
Not only did head coach Mike Krzyzewski and the Blue Devils lock in the No. 1 high school player in the country late Monday night, but they also got the 6-foot-11 phenom to successfully reclassify and enter the program for the upcoming 2017-18 season.
Rumors had been swirling for weeks about Bagley's possible reclassification. Turns out, they all were true. The matter of when and where was the final piece to the mystery for one of the top prospects to come out of high school in this decade.
Simply put, this is massive news that immediately changes the landscape of college basketball, the 2018 NBA Draft, and outlook for Duke, which will likely now be the front-runner to win the national title.
Bagley, a Phoenix, AZ, native who played his junior season at Sierra Canyon (CA), officially joins a massive seven-player class that features Flo40 No. 3 Trevon Duval, No. 5 Wendell Carter Jr., No. 11 Gary Trent Jr., Jordan Tucker, Jordan Goldwire, and Alex O'Connell.
In the Nike EYBL, Bagley posted video game-like averages of 25.3 points, 14.3 rebounds, and 3.1 blocks for Nike Phamily during the regular season. He also dropped 23.4 points and 13.4 rebounds in five games at Nike Peach Jam.
Bagley can do it all, an unbelievable talent, and he most certainly shook up the basketball world with his announcement on national television.
