Creighton Basketball: Bluejays Newcomers Debuting On 2023 Foreign Tour

After coming within seconds of reaching the program's first Final Four, Creighton reloads with a roster once again capable of going on a deep run come March.

But before the Bluejays set their sights on Arizona, host city of the 2024 Final Four, they embark on the Bahamas for their summer 2023 foreign tour.

Creighton's trip through paradise pits the 2024 BIG EAST Conference championship hopefuls against a variety of top-flight international competition. Debuting against those opponents is Creighton's own cast of top-flight newcomers.

"We've been able to recruit at a pretty high level the last few years," Bluejays coach Greg McDermott said at the team's media availability July 11. "Recruiting's forever changed with [name, image and likeness rules] and the transfer portal. So far, we've been able to adjust to that relatively well, and the run in the NCAA Tournament certainly helps."

With a mix of freshmen and transfers, Creighton boasts and impressive incoming class.

Steven Ashworth

Headlining Creighton's transfer imports is Steven Ashworth, an electrifying combo guard who came from Utah State.

Last season Ashworth paced the Aggies to the NCAA Tournament with a 16.2 points-per-game output.

Ashworth is one of the best 3-point shooters college basketball has had in some time, connecting on 43.4% of his attempts for 111 makes a season ago. He's also a standout distributor, last year dishing out 4.5 assists per game.

"It really is a family, and that's what the coaching staff and Coach Mac emphasized about the opportunity to come and play here," Ashworth said of his decision to transfer to Creighton. "Being in a program [Utah State] for three years and loving my time there, it's an adjustment, and I think maybe even a little more than I would have thought, but at the same time, it's only July. We still have a lot of time before we have to be the type of caliber and be in the form we want to be."

Josiah Dotzler

The top-ranked recruit in the state of Nebraska for 2023, local product Josiah Dotzler arrives as a freshman with high three-star designation from 247Sports.com

Dotzler adds another capable two-way scoring and distributing threat to the Bluejays backcourt rotation. He averaged 16.5 points and more than five assists per game as a senior at Bellevue West High School.

Sterling Knox

Las Vegas high school prospect Sterling Knox was the fourth-ranked recruit from the state of Nevada in the 2023 class. The 6-foot-6 wing averaged 16.5 points per game at Red Rock Academy in 2022-23.

Johnathan Lawson

Johnathan Lawson adds high-profile experience to Creighton's stable of perimeter players, having spent the 2022-2023 campaign on the NCAA Tournament-qualifying and American Athletic Conference Tournament-winning Memphis Tigers.

Lawson averaged nearly 16 minutes coming off the bench and tied his career-high of 10 points against a good Texas A&M bunch.

Shane Thomas

Joining Knox on the pipeline from Vegas, Shane Thomas is a 6-foot-3 guard and former Red Rock Academy teammate of Knox.

Josh Townley-Thomas

JUCO transfer Josh Townley-Thomas adds size to the already long and imposing Creighton frontcourt.

The 6-foot-10 Townley-Thomas figures to be a rotational rim-protecting presence, completing Ryan Kelkbrenner for a defense that in 2022-2023 ranked 25th nationally in opponent 2-point field-goal yield.

Isaac Traudt

A prodigal recruit returns, as Grand Island, Nebraska, native and 6-foot-10 stretch-four Isaac Traudt transfer into Creighton from Virginia.

Traudt averaged north of 23 points, grabbed more than eight rebounds and blocked more than a shot per game in his senior season at Grand Island High School.

His versatility and ability to play inside and outside adds an intriguing dimension for the Bluejays frontcourt rotation.

Brock Vice

Another big-bodied addition for the Creighton frontcourt, 6-foot-10 Brock Vice is part of the Bluejays 2023 freshman signing class and the No. 3-ranked prospect out of Tennessee.

Vice averaged a double-double of almost 19 points and more than 10 rebounds per game at Houston High School in Germantown.
