North Carolina A&T heads into its second season in the Coastal Athletic Association looking to making an impression with a veteran lineup.

North Carolina A&T joined the top-heavy Coastal Athletic Association in 2023 and endured some growing pains. The challenges the Aggies faced in their CAA debut set the foundation for what could be a breakout year for them in Year 2.

North Carolina A&T welcomes back some veteran leaders, looking to make noise in a tough league. They also have an early-season bout with No. 1-ranked Wake Forest. 

Here's what to know about North Carolina A&T baseball heading into its 2024 season. 

How Did North Carolina A&T Baseball Do In 2023?

North Carolina A&T finished the 2023 campaign at 19-28, but were a respectable 11-17 in conference play. Another promising note is that the Aggies finished above .500 at home at World War Memorial Stadium, going 14-11. 

Among North Carolina A&T's top performances came with a home sweep of William & Mary in late April. 

Who Coaches North Carolina A&T Baseball?

Ben Hall is in his 10th year at the helm of North Carolina A&T baseball and has helped navigate the program through significant changes. 

The Aggies finished with records above .500 in three straight seasons from 2017 through 2019, a stretch that includes making the 2018 NCAA Tournament. It was just the second postseason appearance in program history. 

North Carolina A&T moved onto the Big South and now the CAA during Hall's tenure. 

Has North Carolina A&T Ever Won The College World Series?

No, North Carolina A&T has never won the College World Series. The Aggies' 2018 NCAA Tournament appearance ended with losses to North Carolina and Purdue. 

In 2005, the other NCAA Tournament trip in program history, North Carolina A&T dropped matchups with Oral Roberts and a Clemson team featuring Ben Hall. 

Notable Returning Players

Canyon Brown, C 

Preseason All-CAA nominee Canyon Brown hit .275 in 2023 with a team-high 31 RBI and tied for a team-leading five home runs. Brown was strong behind the plate with 20 baserunners thrown out on 46 steal attempts. 

Michael Logan, OF 

Michael Logan was limited to 22 games in 2023, but was impressive in his opportunities with a .304 batting average and four multiple-hit performances—all in conference play. 

Notable Newcomers

Tatsunori Negishi, INF/LHP  

Japanese prospect Tatsunori Negishi joins North Carolina A&T by way of Middle Tennessee State, where he played in the 2022 and 2023 seasons. In 2022, he had 10 RBI and a .579 OPS in his 120 at-bats. 

A strong showing in the Perfect Game Collegiate League, playing for the Newark Pilots, saw Negishi hit .305 in 59 at-bats with 10 RBI and three stolen bases. 

Angel Ortiz, RHP

JUCO transfer Angel Ortiz was a strikeout machine in his two seasons at Cochise College in southern Arizona. Ortiz mowed down 80 batters in 62 1/3 innings, good for a per-nine-inning average of 11.55. 

He worked primarily out of the bullpen and scored a couple of saves in 2022.
