CAA Tournament Bracket 2024: No. 7 Stony Brook upsets Hofstra In Semifinals

The CAA Tournament Championship game will feature No.1 Charleston vs. No.7 Stony Brook on March 12. Here's a quick recap heading into the Finals.

The CAA Men's Basketball Tournament Championship game is set for the defending champions No.1 Charleston Basketball to play No.7 Stony Brook on March 12 at 7 pm. This marks Stony Brook's first time reaching the CAA Tournament Finals in school history and the route in which the Seawolves have took thus far is the epitome of March Madness.

On March 11, No.7 Stony Brook took down No. 3 Hofstra 63-59 in a game that reached double overtime. The Seawolves have now won two back-to back overtime games following their win against Drexel in the quarterfinals. 

No.1 Charleston Basketball defeated No.5 Towson as well on Monday 61-56 to have a shot at defending their CAA Tournament Championship in the finals. 

Here's a closer look at the Semifinals matchups leading into the CAA Men's Basketball Tournament Championship.

Stony Brook Basketball vs. Hofstra Basketball

Stony Brook defeated Hofstra 63-59 in double overtime, the second consecutive win in crunch time for the Seawolves in this year's tournament. Tyler Stephenson-Moore led the Seawolves offensive charge with 23 points on 7-14 FG shooting, while Chris Maidoh and Aaron Clarke also contributed double figures.

Tyler Stephenson-Moore filled all portions of the stat sheet adding a season high nine rebounds, two blocks, and three steals. 

This semifinals win puts the Seawolves at 20-14 on the season, in their first ever CAA Tournament Final, and also the third team seeded seventh to advance to the final.

Hofstra put up a fight led by CAA Player of the Year, Tyler Thomas, who finished the game with 32 points and nine rebounds. 

Charleston Basketball vs. Towson Basketball

No.1 Charleston defeated No.5 Towson  61-56, this now marks two consecutive years the Cougars have knocked out the Tigers in the semifinals. Charleston trailed by as much as seven late in the game ,however with clutch plays from the Cougars they ended the  game on a 13-1 run to defeat the Tigers.

Reyne Smith led the way for Charleston with 16 points on 4-11 FG shooting and added five rebounds. Bryce Butler trailed closely behind with 13 points followed by Frankie Policelli with 10.

After securing  their 11th straight win, the Cougars currently have the nation's second longest winning streak behind James Madison.

Towson also had three players in Tyler Tejeda, Charles Thompson, and Dylan Williamson who all scored double figures, Tejeda led the group with 16 points.

CAA Men's Basketball Tournament Schedule

All Times Eastern

  • Round 1 will begin Friday, March 8 with game one at 2pm Game two will be played at 4:30pm
  • Round 2 will begin Saturday, March 9 with four games from 12 p.m.-8:30 p.m. 
  • Quarterfinals will begin Sunday, March 10 with four games from 12 p.m.-8:30 p.m. 
  • Semifinals will begin Monday, March 11 at 6pm and 8:30pm 
  • The championship game will begin Tuesday, March 12 at 7 p.m.

Where Is The 2024 CAA Men’s Basketball Tournament

The CAA men’s tournament will be returning to Washington, D.C. All games will be held at the Entertainment and Sports Arena. 

When Does The 2024 NCAA Tournament Start?

The tournament will begin with Selection Sunday on March 17, followed by the First Four on March 19-20. 

After the opening round is complete, the field will be set with the top 64 teams and the first round will start on March 21-22.

What Is Selection Sunday?

Selection Sunday is the day the NCAA committee releases the full tournament bracket initial seeding of all 68 teams. 

Thirty-two teams will automatically qualify for the tournament by winning their conference tournament. 

That leaves 36 other teams fighting for an at-large bid from the selection committee, which is considered through multiple stats and rankings to determine who receives the at-large bid.
