The Sparks are adding the 2024 Naismith Women's Defensive Player of the Year in Cameron Brink, who at 6'4 will make an immediate impact inside.
The addition of Rickea Jackson at the No. 4 pick is also intriguing as the Sparks continue to look to add depth and size. Jackson is a 6'2 Forward who averaged 20.2 PPG while shooting 48% from FG and 33% from 3-pt FG.
Here's a preview of the LA Sparks ahead of the 2024 WNBA Season.
WNBA Preview 2024 : Los Angeles Sparks
The Los Angeles Sparks won big in the 2024 WNBA Draft by securing Cameron Brink at No.2 and Rickea Jackson at No.4 of the WNBA Draft. This season will start a new era for the Sparks as they look to rebuild following the retirement of WNBA legend, Candace Parker.
Candace Parker was the No.1 Pick in the 2008 WNBA Draft and also won Rookie of the Year in that season. Parker is also responsible for leading the Sparks to their last WNBA Championship in 2016.
This past season the Sparks finished at No.9 in the WNBA standings with a record of 17-23, leaving them one spot short of clinching a playoff spot. The sparks have not clinched a playoff berth since 2020, which was also their least winning season with a record of 15-7.
Brink and Jackson are expected to bring some new excitement to this franchise as they are both proven scores with pro skills and the added rim protection of Brink can not be matched. The Sparks have the opportunity to build a solid young core with this years draft picks and Zia Cooke of South Carolina form the 2023 WNBA Draft.
Final rosters will be decided prior to opening day which is scheduled for May 14, the Sparks first regular season game is May 15 vs. the Atlanta Dream.
