The Minnesota Lynx are coming off a solid 2023 season and are continuing the rebuild back into a championship caliber team. The Lynx have a total of four WNBA Championships with the most recent coming in 2017.

The Lynx walked away from the 2024 WNBA Draft with two draft picks including Alissa Pili at No.8 and Kiki Jefferson, at No.31.

Prior to trading the No.7 pick to Chicago, the Lynx did have the option to keep the pick and draft Angel Reese. If the upside potential of Reese pans out, this could result in being a costly front office decision down the road.

Here's a preview of the Minnesota Lynx ahead of the 2024 WNBA Season.

WNBA Preview 2024: Minnesota Lynx

The Minnesota Lynx finished the 2023 season at No.6 in the WNBA Standings with a 19-21 record. The Lynx secured a playoff berth which ended in the first round with a loss to Connecticut. This still marks improve upon the 2023 season which they dod not qualify for playoffs and finished 14-22.

Despite the decision to pass on Angel Reese at No.7, picking Alissa Pili at No.8 could prove to be a great choice.

Who Is Alissa Pili?

Pili is a 6'2 forward from Utah who averaged 21.4 ppg and 6.6 rebounds while shooting 55% from the floor. She is a former Pac-12 player of the Year with a strong offensive skill set and still provides rebounding with her size. The lynx already having a solid core would make her transition easy as we await the season to see if her scoring translates to the WNBA.

The second pick for the Lynx was Jefferson at No.31 , Jefferson is a 6'1 guard/forward from Louisville who can score as well.  Prior to transferring to Louisville she was named the 2022-23 Sun Belt Player of the Year while at James Madison. In her most recent season for Louisville she led the team in scoring averaging 12.3 ppg while shooting  46.6% from the field, 34.9% from beyond the arc.

These two draft picks will be promising in the Lynx franchise as they develop in the upcoming seasons, however the Lynx are still making moves to win now rather than later.

The Minnesota Lynx also signed forwards Camryn Taylor, Mimi Collins and guard Quinesha Lockett to training camp contracts in attempt to see who else could impact this team immediately.

Final rosters will be decided prior to opening day which is scheduled for May 14, the Lynx first regular season game is May 14 vs. the Seattle Storm.
