Hofstra men’s basketball heads into the 2025-26 season determined to rebound from a difficult 2024-25 campaign that saw the Pride finish 15-18 overall and 6-12 in CAA play. 

While the record showed inconsistency, the roster featured promising individual performances and highlighted areas where Hofstra can improve moving forward.

Head coach Speedy Claxton, now firmly established as the program’s leader, returns a number of players who have proven themselves at this level. Combined with several newcomers who add size and versatility, the Pride expect to be more competitive in conference play. 

With a challenging schedule that mixes marquee nonconference road games and CAA battles, Hofstra enters the year looking to climb back toward the league’s upper tier.

Cruz Davis Leads the Backcourt

Junior guard Cruz Davis led Hofstra with 14.4 points per game last season. His combination of speed and shooting gives the Pride a go-to scorer on the perimeter.

Coach Promotions

Mike DePaoli has been promoted to associate head coach and Antwon Portley to assistant coach. Both staff members have spent a handful of years with Pride prior to their promotion. Coaches who know the program and the players will prove an advantage for the team.

Nonconference Road Tests Await

The Pride face early road games at Central Florida, Temple, Pittsburgh, and Syracuse. These contests will test Hofstra’s depth before the grind of CAA play begins.
