A new season of CAA women's basketball is almost here, and the conference championship race has plenty of intrigue.

Monmouth Women's Basketball enters the 2026-27 season as the unanimous preseason favorite, but with a defending champion under new leadership and several contenders looking to climb the standings, the road to March is far from decided.

The Hawks earned 12 first-place votes in the preseason coaches poll, with Elon, Drexel and William & Mary rounding out the top four.

From returning All-CAA talent to new coaching staffs, here is what to know as the CAA prepares for another season on the hardwood.

Monmouth Leads The Preseason Race

The Hawks have two of the conference's most recognizable players returning for the 2026-27 campaign.

Senior guard Gigi Gamble was named the CAA Preseason Player of the Year after averaging 15.2 points per game last season. She reached double figures 21 times and scored at least 20 points in 10 games.

Joining her is fifth-year forward Divine Dibula, who averaged 13.9 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.

Both players earned Preseason All-CAA First Team recognition, giving Monmouth Women's Basketball an experienced combination as the Hawks pursue a conference title.

Charleston Begins A New Chapter

The defending CAA champion Cougars enter the season with a new face leading the program.

Head coach Amanda Butler takes over a Charleston Women's Basketball team looking to build on its championship success.

Senior guard Tyja Beans earned Preseason All-CAA Second Team honors and will be among the players to watch as the Cougars navigate the transition.

Charleston was picked eighth in the preseason poll, giving the defending champions an opportunity to exceed outside expectations.

Elon, Drexel And William & Mary Look To Challenge

Three programs enter the season positioned just behind Monmouth in the preseason rankings.

Elon Women's Basketball earned the second spot, with Drexel following in third and William & Mary in fourth.

Drexel Women's Basketball returns senior guard Laine McGurk, a preseason first-team selection who averaged 12.8 points per game last season.

William & Mary Women's Basketball will look to senior guard Cassidy Geddes, another preseason first-team honoree, as the Tribe aims to remain among the conference's top contenders.

Elon also has two preseason second-team selections in Jayda Angel and LaNae' Corbett, giving the Phoenix talent to challenge for the top of the standings.

When Does CAA Women's Basketball Begin?

The 2026-27 CAA women's basketball regular season begins Nov. 2, with conference play opening Jan. 1, 2027.

The CAA Women's Basketball Championship is scheduled for March 10-14 at CareFirst Arena in Washington, D.C.
