The road to a Landmark Conference championship runs through a program that has made winning a habit.

Scranton Women's Basketball enters the 2026-27 women's basketball season looking to build on another dominant campaign, but Susquehanna, Catholic University, and Elizabethtown have shown they can challenge for a place at the top.

With conference supremacy, a tournament title and a potential NCAA Division III postseason run at stake, the new season offers plenty of storylines to follow.

From Scranton's championship pedigree to a competitive race for postseason positioning, here are five things to know about Landmark women's basketball.

1. Scranton Is The Team To Beat

The University of Scranton has established itself as the conference's dominant program, capturing 11 consecutive Landmark Conference championships through the 2025-26 season.

The Lady Royals finished last season with a 32-1 record, including an undefeated 18-0 mark in conference play.

Scranton also advanced to the NCAA Division III national championship game for the first time since the 1984-85 season. Although the Lady Royals fell to Denison Women's Basketball in the title game, their historic campaign sets a high standard for the program entering the new season.

2. A New Coach Takes Over At Scranton

Despite its recent success, Scranton enters the season with a significant change on the sideline.

Kaitlyn Lewis was named head coach after Ben O'Brien departed for Lafayette Women's Basketball, where he accepted the head coaching position.

Lewis takes over a program with championship expectations and a strong foundation. Her challenge will be to maintain that standard while guiding the Lady Royals through the transition and pursuing another conference title.

3. Susquehanna, Catholic and Elizabethtown Are Contenders

Scranton's dominance does not mean the rest of the conference lacks competition.

Susquehanna, Catholic and Elizabethtown each finished 14-4 in Landmark play last season, tying for second place behind the Lady Royals.

Elizabethtown reached the conference championship game before falling to Scranton, while Susquehanna and Catholic also demonstrated the ability to compete near the top of the standings.

Those programs will look to close the gap in 2026-27, making their head-to-head matchups important in the race for postseason positioning.

4. The Conference Features 10 Teams

The Landmark Conference includes 10 women's basketball programs:

  • Catholic
  • Drew
  • Elizabethtown
  • Goucher
  • Juniata
  • Lycoming
  • Moravian
  • Scranton
  • Susquehanna
  • Wilkes

Each team will navigate the conference schedule while balancing non-conference competition.

With familiar opponents meeting throughout the season, teams must find consistency against league rivals to secure a favorable position heading into the postseason.

5. The Landmark Conference Tournament Begins In February

The conference championship provides the next major milestone for teams pursuing postseason success.

The 2027 Landmark Conference women's basketball tournament is scheduled to begin with first-round games Tuesday, Feb. 23, followed by the semifinals Thursday, Feb. 25, and the championship game Saturday, Feb. 27.

For Scranton, the goal will be to extend its remarkable championship streak. For the teams chasing the Lady Royals, the tournament represents an opportunity to change the conference's recent history and claim a title of their own.

With a new season approaching, Scranton remains the program everyone will measure themselves against.
