We all know the story of Stephen Curry, father of Riley, and son of Dell. Grew up in Charlotte, NC, went to Davidson, captured the hearts of millions with NCAA tournament success, and now NBA darling. But what do we know about his sneaker journey?

For a majority of his collegiate and professional career, Stephen Curry has played in Nike sneakers. HyperDunk, HyperGamer, Air Max Flight, the list goes on. \

Now, Curry is the headliner of Under Armour’s basketball line.

Winning the NBA MVP, All-Star appearances and NBA Finals, Curry is on his way to being Under Armour’s Michael Jordan and more. The Warriors’ PG is currently orchestrating some of the winningest seasons in NBA history. Leading the Warriors to 67 wins (5 away from tying the 95-96 Bulls) in 2014-15 en route to a NBA MVP and title.

Now, why will Curry become Under Armour’s Jordan?

Easy, he’s the most electric player we have ever seen and Under Armour is ditching out serious cash to keep their Curry Cow. Terms haven’t been disclosed, but Curry is protecting “This House” until 2024. Extending on a deal that was originally signed after the 2012-13 season.

In Curry’s first year with Under Armour, he was wearing the Anatomix. The Under Armour Anatomix was a basketball sneaker constructed with performance-first in mind. Not easy on the eyes, the Anantomix certainly were on the right feet, because sales started to boom. Curry made his first All-Star appearance, averaging 24 pts/8.5 ast /4.3 reb/1.6 stl.

Following Curry’s first round exit from the playoffs, losing to the Clippers in seven, Under Armour made their move. UA released details of Stephen Curry’s first signature sneaker, The Curry One. Under Armour has always put performance over looks and the Curry One is no exception. The Under Armour Curry One was built for the most “unguardable” player featuring two new technological advances. Charged Cushioning is the ultimate advancement in energy. Designed to bring the same explosiveness to the next step from the first. To compliment the explosive responsiveness, the Curry One possessed Anafoam. A technology that molds to your feet in response to key pressure points. It was in the Curry One Stephen Curry led the Warriors to a NBA Title with 67 regular season wins. Every colorway of the Curry One soldout at all major retailers and are reselling at the same rate of limited Air Jordans.

The Curry One retailed at $120 with some pairs reselling for double the price on sites like eBay and FlightClub. All of this happening while sought-after colorways of Air Jordans are sitting on the shelves. NO, I’M NOT SAYING CURRY JUMPED OVER THE JUMPMAN.

That brings us to Curry’s second signature, the Curry Two. The Curry Two is adding to the Under Armour portfolio and building their clout on the court. This is in part to Stephen Curry’s historic start to the 2015-16 season. At the time of this article, the Warriors are sitting at 20-0, the best start in NBA history. Curry is averaging 32 ppg while shooting 52%. Those are monstrous numbers, and everyone should just get out of his way.

Why Curry will mean more to Under Armour than Jordan to Nike?

Stephen Curry is an anomaly in the professional sports world. Curry possesses all the characteristics of what the NBA wants. Funny, charismatic, well-versed in social media, and most importantly: he’s humble. This is where Curry jumps Jordan, in character not sneaker-sense. For those that are too young to know better, Michael Jordan lacked humility and had a gambling problem. It got to a point where it was rumored to be the reasoning behind his first retirement.

Right now, the Curry line doesn’t have the street appeal the Air Jordan has but it could change. Much like how the Air Jordan 1 and 2 weren’t worn frequently off-the-court until the early 2000s, the Curry One and Two could be seen on the feet of affluent fashionistas in the near-future.

Curry is staying healthy, he’s destroying opposing defenses, and twenty years down the road we all might be wearing retro Curry sneakers. When Curry’s extension is over, there will be 11 signature models. We all know what Jordan’s 11th model did for the sneaker community. We always look forward to December.
