The fan voting has closed and the NBA All-Star Game starters have been announced for 2016. The Toronto showcase will feature Dwyane Wade, Kyle Lowry, LeBron James, Paul George and Carmelo Anthony of the East, and Stephen Curry, Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant, Kobe Bryant, and Kawhi Leonard of the West.
The leading vote-getter was Kobe Bryant of the Lakers, which comes to no surprise because of the inevitable retirement. Steph Curry was second in votes after a dazzling start to the Warriors season. LeBron James was the leading vote-getter for the East, third overall.
This All-Star Game has a few milestones to take note. Besides Kobe’s 18th appearance, this is Durant and Westbrook’s 5th appearance together beating out Kemp/Payton’s record of 4 All-Star appearances as teammates (Sonics). This is the 1st appearance for Kawhi Leonard who took the last forward spot on the West.
The coaches will vote on the reserves and that list should come out soon. The folks at Bleacher Report gave us an image of how the starters would look in their All-Star gigs.
