The AAU season is nearing full swing and teams are looking to become the talk of the summer.

Last weekend, FloHoops live-streamed the Spring Hoops Festival in Oakland, which was headlined by perennial Bay Area powerhouse Oakland Soldiers. But one of the teams that caught the crowd’s eye was another northern California force: Team Arsenal – Black.

The squad features a pair of 7'0" towers in Jack Wilson (Portland State offer) and Jacob Hughes (Washington State offer) in the frontcourt. In the backcourt, they have Division I prospects Timmy Falls (Montana commit), Elijah Hardy (Cal, Montana and Nevada offers), and Naseem Gaskin (Boise State offer). Other players filling out the roster include Bobby Santos, Zethan Dumpson, AJ Brahmah, Andre Kelly and Aaron Banks, who has offers to play football at USC and Oregon as an offensive lineman. In total, the roster has received more than 30 Division I athletic scholarship offers.

FloHoops recently caught up with Team Arsenal’s coach and director, KP.

FloHoops: Coach, give a little background on yourself, starting with your basketball playing career and how you got into coaching.

Coach KP: I played basketball in both high school and college. I played college ball at Clark in Atlanta for one year, and the remainder at College of Idaho. I’ve been coaching Team Arsenal for four years. Before that, I trained numerous professional athletes.

How does AAU basketball help athletes?

It helps the players with play basketball the right way. Ultimately, it prepares them to succeed at a higher level of competition. We want to help these individuals become men and ultimately earn a scholarship. The scholarship not only extends their athletic game, but also the opportunity to succeed in the classroom.
