Class of 2017's 6-5 shooting guard Chaundee Brown has narrowed his prospective college list down to just four: Kansas, Maryland, Wake Forest, and Florida. The talented wing scorer blew up this summer on the Nike EYBL circuit by averaging 19.1 points per game in the regular season and 22 points per game in Peach Jam play. He led Nike South Beach to their first ever Peach Jam appearance and showcased one of the most dominant performances on the AAU circuit by finishing with 37 points and 12 rebounds in a big win against E1T1 United late in the regular season.
"All the schools need a great wing like me, they are all telling me the same things," Brown said. "They need a strong wing that can get to the hole, shoot, knock down open threes and make an impact on their program right away."
Kansas Jayhawks
"They are in the Big 12 and they always win their conference," Brown said. "They produce big guards and a lot of NBA players, and they always go far in tournament every year, they are just a big-time program."
Maryland Terrapins
"Losing a couple wings, they need me to be that guy that comes in and makes an impact. The Big Ten is definitely a good conference, and they play in some tough games, and they are a team that needs me to be a factor," Brown said.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons
"Wake Forest is trying to be really good and they just need a couple young guys to come in and develop. They really need an impact two guard like me to come in and play well to give them a chance to compete in the ACC again," Brown said.
Florida Gators
"Coach White has been talking to me about trying to get up there and visit the school. They are recruiting me as a scorer and really have lacked shooters lately. They are also only about an hour away from here," Brown said.
Brown plans to visit the schools around September, and make a decision during the early signing period in November. He is looking to continue to make improvements in his game next year at The First Academy. "I need to stay consistent and focus," Brown said. "I want to be a guy that can go out and get 20, 10, and 5 and I really want to work on my defending, that's the number one thing on list, being able to lock guys down defensively, I am really working on that. I just want to have no weaknesses in my game. I worked out every day this summer and I am just trying to focus on getting better."
When asked about the rankings, Brown was more concerned about receiving All-American honors. "I think I will jump in the rankings," Brown said. "I am trying to get into the top 20-25 range because I want to be a McDonald's All American and I want to be invited to the Jordan Brand Classic. They are more important to me than the rankings."
