Due to damage caused by Hurricane Matthew, one of FloHoops' live events next month has been relocated. The Junkanoo Jam, which is normally held on Grand Bahama Island in the Bahamas, has been changed to the Bimini Islands at Gateway Christian Academy.
The decision to move the women's Division I tournament slated for November 24-26 followed damage to The Grand Lucayan Resort by the hurricane. It was determined that the resort, where the teams and supporters stay, would not be repaired in time.
"Obviously, we are disappointed that the tournament had to be moved from Grand Bahama Island, but we are grateful to our friends in the Bahamas, who have been extremely helpful in relocating the tournament," tournament director and Basketball Travelers president Neal Holden said in a statement.
Junkanoo Jam officials worked with the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism to find the new location, and those who purchased ticket packages through the event company will now stay at The Hilton at Resorts World Bimini.
The event will feature 2016 NCAA Tournament participants Georgia, Missouri, and South Florida, as well as North Carolina, Creighton, Dayton, Georgia Tech, and Minnesota.
