Here's a snapshot of the best of the best from the Thanksgiving Hoopfest:

The Venue

Best Game

Findlay Prep vs. Austin Westlake

FINAL (OT):
Findlay Prep (NV) - 88
  • F PJ Washington: 26 PTS, 9 AST, 8 REB, 5 STL, 2 BLK
  • G Justin Roberts: 14 PTS, 8 AST, 5 STL, 3 REB
Austin Westlake - 81
  • G Keyonte Kennedy: 31 PTS
  • F Brock Cunningham: 20 PTS
Austin Westlake, Texas' top-ranked high school basketball team, headed into this game with one question in mind: Can it hang with the best prep schools in the country? Well, Thanksgiving Hoopfest's headlining Friday night matchup with No. 7 Findlay Prep was Westlake's chance to find out. Westlake got going right out of the gate thanks to the hot hand of junior guard Keyonte Kennedy.  In a game of runs, Westlake controlled the pace of the game, keeping Findlay Prep contained on all levels. The fourth quarter appeared to belong to Findlay Prep until Westlake executed in the final seconds.

Down by three points with 20 seconds remaining, Westlake executed a clutch play to perfection. With some great ball screen action to get Findlay Prep defenders moving, junior Brock Cunningham drove baseline before dishing out to the top of the key. The game-tying 3-pointer in regulation forced overtime, but the Findlay Prep eventually escaped 88-81 at Duncanville High School.

Breakout Performance

Keyonte Kennedy
School: Austin Westlake High School
Position: Guard
Class: 2018

Keyonte Kennedy is a newcomer to Austin Westlake. Originally from Colorado, Kennedy and his family relocated to Austin for his father's job. Upon taking a look at what high school basketball had to offer in Austin, Keyonte decided to join a strong Westlake High School team. Kennedy is a new piece to an already deep team with 2018 talent, including Matt Mayer and Brock Cunningham, who led Westlake to a regionals just a year ago.

On Friday night, the stage was set for Kennedy to help show everyone what this year's Westlake team could pull off. Leading the team's offensive efforts, Kennedy accounted for 31 points and played a key role in keeping Findlay within reach all game.

Some would say this was Kennedy's "coming out party" as a Texas hooper. If this kid wasn't on the map already, you can bet he will be now.
