Nathan Hale's Brandon Roy Suffers Gunshot Wound While Protecting Kids
Nathan Hale (WA) head coach and former NBA All-Star Brandon Roy reportedly suffered a gunshot wound in Southern California.
Spend any amount of time around Brandon Roy and it's easy to his passion for life, family, and the game of basketball. It's truly unfortunate any of it was put in jeopardy.
According to multiple outlets and first reported by Seattle's King 5 TV, the Nathan Hale (WA) head coach and former NBA All-Star was wounded in a shooting while attending an outdoor gathering in Southern California over the weekend. Roy reportedly was one of four people who suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds outside his grandmother's house. Per a USA Today Sports report, Roy was an innocent bystander and was shot while shielding a group of kids.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department told reporters all four shooting victims were transported to a local hospital. Roy was treated and has since returned to Washington, according to King 5 TV. He is expected to make a full recovery.
Roy led the Nathan Hale Raiders to undefeated 29-0 season and Washington Class 3A state title in his first season. He won several national coach of the year honors.
