Flo40 No. 4 Mohamed Bamba Ends Recruitment, Picks Texas
Westtown School (PA) center Mohamed Bamba ended his recruitment and will play for Shaka Smart at Texas next season.
Some might call it a delayed decision, one that could have happened months ago. That's easy to say from afar, but only Mohamed Bamba knew when the time was right. After a rather calculated recruiting process, it all ended Thursday.
The 2017 Flo40 No. 4 and best prospect still available will play at Texas next season. He committed to the Longhorns over other finalists Duke, Kentucky, and Michigan via The Players' Tribune.
A 7-foot center with incredible length and impressive skill set, Bamba immediately changes the dynamic and outlook for UT head coach Shaka Smart next season as the headliner to a now five-player 2017 class featuring Flo40 point guard Matt Coleman, shooting guard Jase Febres, and forwards Jericho Sims and Royce Hamm.
"Coach Smart understood from day one that I'm someone who is looking to make a profound impact, both on and off the court," Bamba said in a statement released by Texas. "The more I learned about the University of Texas and the city of Austin, the more I realized this was an ideal platform for me to pursue my many goals."
From a winning a second straight state title to wrap up a successful season at Westtown School (PA) to traveling China for a senior project to playing in the McDonald's All American Games, Jordan Brand Classic, and Nike Hoops Summit, it's been a whirlwind year for Bamba.
Now, the Naismith Player of the Year finalist can move on and get ready for a new life at Texas.
