SPRINGFIELD, MA — John Petty was on a different level Monday morning. It certainly was higher than anyone else inside Blake Arena during the first game of the Spalding Hoophall Classic’s final day. If the Flo40 guard from Huntsville, Alabama, was feeling slighted after not being selected to the McDonald’s All-American Game, he made a case for why he should have been included with his play.

Petty, an Alabama signee and No. 29 player in 2017, went off in Jemison’s 58-52 upset over No. 23 St. Anthony (NJ), notching a triple-double of 18 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists.

RJ Cole led the Friars with 19 points in the loss.

This wasn’t against soft competition. This was a statement. And Petty was certainly loud and clear that he belongs in the discussion as one of the best shooting guards in the country.
