No. 12 The Patrick School Survives Double-Overtime Scare At Spalding Hoophall Classic

SPRINGFIELD, MA — Jordan “Jelly” Walker had the ball in his hands during the closing seconds of a tie game at the Spalding Hoophall Classic on Monday afternoon, ready to end it. Everyone knew he was going to take the final shot. What happened next had everyone inside Blake Arena in disbelief.

Walker waited until the last possible moment to make his move — a nasty stepback — before drilling a game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer. Yet, it didn’t count.

The senior guard was called for a push off.

The crowd, in addition to Walker and everyone on the court, was stunned.

At the end of it, though, it didn’t matter. No. 12 The Patrick School (NJ) might not have closed out pesky Pace Academy (GA) in regulation, but it escaped in double overtime 68-60.

Walker and teammate Jamir Harris scored 15. Marcus McClary added 11, and Flo40 big man Nick Richards finished with 10 points. Walker also tallied nine rebounds and 11 assists.

For Pace Academy, Flo40 No. 4 and Duke signee Wendell Carter had 28 points and 18 rebounds.

And while perhaps the Spalding Hoophall Classic’s biggest shot was waved off, the job still got done.
