Spencer Freedman Guides Monarchs Into Stout California Open Division Bracket

Freedman Leads Monarchs Into Bracket Gauntlet

Spencer Freedman might not ever be the biggest, strongest or fastest player on the court at all times, but never leave him alone. Don’t dare leave him alone. The Mater Dei (CA) junior guard is a straight assassin and will break teams any way he chooses.

At 6-foot-1 with a smooth left-handed stroke, Freedman torches the net from 3-point range and has a quick first step to blow by defenders. Above all, he is an incredibly cerebral player who is almost always makes the right play.

Although he has an entire season left in his prep career, Friday marks the beginning to the end of the 2016-17 campaign for the Monarchs and other top teams in California.

With the regular season in the rearview mirror, all eyes are now on the CIF Southern Section Open Division, featuring the likes of No. 2 Sierra Canyon, No. 9 Chino Hills, No. 10 Mater Dei and No. 15 Bishop Montgomery.

Unfortunately, due to the state’s rules, none of these teams are eligible for Dick’s Nationals starting in late March so this is go time, survive and advance, in order to compete for an Open Division state championship.

Only time will tell which team will make it out unscathed, but you better believe Freedman’s play will have something to say about it along the way.
