No. 7 Findlay Prep Escapes Austin Westlake In Overtime

DUNCANVILLE, Texas — This place is usually known for its own storied history of high school hoops. But on Friday, two visiting teams added another piece to the Sandra Meadows Arena legacy and stole the show on the opening night of the 2016 Thanksgiving Hoopfest.

Down by three with 20 seconds remaining, Austin Westlake executed a clutch play to perfection. With some great ball screen action to get No. 7 Findlay Prep defenders moving, junior Brock Cunningham drove baseline before dishing out to the top of the key.

Swish.

The game-tying 3-pointer in regulation forced overtime, but the Pilots eventually escaped, 88-81, at Duncanville High School.

Findlay Prep head coach Paul Washington Sr. spoke with FloHoops’ Jaki Golder after the game about his team’s preparation for competitive, intense games and reaction to adversity.

Thanksgiving Hoopfest opens bright and early at 9 AM on Saturday, with Findlay Prep looking to go undefeated at 7:30 PM CST live on FloHoops.
