Montverde Academy Guard Rechon Black Gets Mojo Back At National Hoopfest In Tampa

TAMPA, FL — After transferring schools and learning his new role on the team, there have been plenty of adjustments Rechon “Leaky” Black has needed to make on the fly this season. Rest assured, though, the Flo40 junior guard has his mojo back.

The No. 40 prospect for 2018 knew the transition from Concord (NC) to No. 6 Montverde Academy (FL) was not going to be a cakewalk. After all, he went from being the star to playing on a loaded squad and alongside star sophomore RJ Barrett, among others. Yet, as of late, everyone is starting to see the player Black knows how to be on the court.

A prime example was during Saturday’s 94-59 win over Tampa Catholic (FL) in the ARS Rescue Rooter National Hoopfest at Berkeley Prep.

Black was aggressive on both ends. Then he got hot from outside. By no means was he the leading scorer on the Eagles, but he impacted the game early and often and scored 11 points by halftime.

Sometimes it is not his game, but he is finding ways to stay involved. Black is feeling like himself again, which can only be an indication of even better games ahead.
