Alex Lomax Follows Mentor Penny Hardaway To University Of Memphis

Penny Hardaway has mentored Memphis (TN) East senior point guard Alex Lomax since the sixth grade. Along the way, the pair won three high school state championships together and created an inseparable bond on their journey so far.
After Hardaway accepted the head coaching position at his alma mater, the University of Memphis, Lomax requested and was granted a release from his commitment to Wichita State.
Classy move by Gregg Marshall. And hopefully other coaches are paying attention. Doing the right thing isn’t hard pic.twitter.com/g1tNvhPXrX

Though the release hinted that Lomax would sign with his mentor at WSU's conference rival, the two have given each other space in this process. Two weeks to the date of his release, Lomax officially announced his commitment to Memphis and Hardaway.
