The Hampton University men’s basketball team is looking to improve on its debut performance in the CAA. Here’s a look at the Pirates’ 2023-2024 schedule.

The Hampton Pirates were not fierce in their Coastal Athletic Association debut last season. They posted an 8-24 record overall, while going 5-13 in CAA play. The Pirates shared the last spot in the conference standings with Monmouth.

The debut in their new conference wasn’t far off from how they performed in the final season in the Big South, however. During the 2021-2022 campaign, the Pirates were 9-19 overall and 5-11 in conference play, finishing last in the North Division.

Head coach Edward Joyner Jr., Hampton’s leader since 2009, was able to add seven newcomers to his squad this season. That includes five transfers and two freshmen to compliment the eight returning team members.

In the 2023-2024 CAA Men’s Basketball Preseason Coaches Poll, Hampton was picked to finish 13th, sandwiched between newcomer Campbell (12) and North Carolina A&T, which debuted with Hampton last season.

The list of players returning from the 2022-2023 Hampton roster includes the team’s top scorer, junior guard Jordan Nesbitt, who averaged 14.9 points last season. Nesbitt also earned honorable mention among the All-CAA preseason selections.

Hampton sophomore Kyrese Mullen is expected to be a contributor for the Pirates this season, too. As a freshman, he led the team in rebounds (232), which was an average of 7.7 per game. He also had 7.4 points per game.

When Is The CAA Men’s Basketball Tournament?

The 2024 Jersey Mike’s CAA Men’s Basketball Championship will be held March 8-12 at the Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington, D.C.

The winner will earn an automatic berth into the Division I Men’s Basketball Championship.

When Is The 2024 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship?

The NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship. The NCAA Tournament. March Madness. No matter what you call it, March belongs to college basketball.

Selection Sunday, which will fall on March 17, is the day the 68 teams for the postseason bracket are announced.

The First Four will kickstart The Big Dance on March 19-20, with eight teams (the four lowest-seeded automatic qualifiers and the four lowest-seeded at-large teams) battling for the opportunity to compete in the main 64-team bracket. This will take place in Dayton, Ohio.

The road to the national championship will continue with the opening round of play (Round of 64) across eight locations on March 21-22. Those same venues will host the Round of 32 on March 23-24.

On March 28-29, four new locations will welcome teams and fans for the Sweet 16 (regional semifinals), which will be followed by the Elite Eight (regional finals) on March 30-31.

The 2024 Final Four (national semifinals and national championship) will be held at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, on April 6 and April 8, respectively.
