The Drexel men’s basketball team is led by the Coastal Athletic Association Preseason Player of the Year, Amari Williams.

The senior forward is coming off an award-winning season that included averages of 13.7 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.23 blocks per game on the way to first-team All-CAA honors and a second consecutive CAA Defensive Player of the Year selection.

Williams helped the Dragons to a 17-15 record during the 2022-2023 season, which included a 10-8 mark in CAA play and a fifth-place finish in the conference standings.

The CAA coaches see the potential within the Drexel program, and the Dragons landed third in the 2023-2024 CAA Men’s Basketball Preseason Poll, including one No. 1 vote.

Sophomore guard Justin Moore, one of four returning starters for Drexel, earned a preseason honorable mention. Last year, he averaged 9.6 points and 3.1 assists for the Dragons.

The team is two years removed from winning the 2021 CAA Men’s Basketball Championship and returning to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 25 years. The improvement has come under the leadership of head coach Zach Spiker, who took over the top spot in March 2016.

Another new venture for Drexel this season will be the Dragons’ inclusion in the Big 5, a group of NCAA Division I basketball schools from the Philadelphia area that compete for a city collegiate championship.

The group now includes six teams—Drexel, La Salle, University of Pennsylvania, Saint Joseph’s, Temple and Villanova—but it’s really just an extension of what already was called the City 6, a separate intra-city intramural competition.

The Big 5 tradition dates back nearly 70 years. All six teams will compete in the Big 5 Classic in December.

When Is The CAA Men’s Basketball Tournament?

The 2024 Jersey Mike’s CAA Men’s Basketball Championship will be held March 8-12 at the Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington, D.C.

The winner will earn an automatic berth into the Division I Men’s Basketball Championship.

When Is The 2024 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship?

The NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship. The NCAA Tournament. March Madness. No matter what you call it, March belongs to college basketball.

Selection Sunday, which will fall on March 17, is the day the 68 teams for the postseason bracket are announced.

The First Four will kickstart The Big Dance on March 19-20, with eight teams (the four lowest-seeded automatic qualifiers and the four lowest-seeded at-large teams) battling for the opportunity to compete in the main 64-team bracket. This will take place in Dayton, Ohio.

The road to the national championship will continue with the opening round of play (Round of 64) across eight locations on March 21-22. Those same venues will host the Round of 32 on March 23-24.

On March 28-29, four new locations will welcome teams and fans for the Sweet 16 (regional semifinals), which will be followed by the Elite Eight (regional finals) on March 30-31.

The 2024 Final Four (national semifinals and national championship) will be held at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, on April 6 and April 8, respectively.
