The Kansas State Women’s Basketball team booked its spot in the Gulf Coast Showcase championship game after the No. 16-ranked Wildcats took an early lead over No. 18 North Carolina and held on late to win 63-56 in Estero, Florida. 

The Wildcats, the only team to beat No. 5 Iowa entering the tournament, will play the winner of Iowa and Florida Gulf Coast in the championship game on Nov. 26 streaming on FloHoops and the FloSports app.

K-State (6-0) was led by Serena Sundell, who scored 16 points. Meanwhile, Ayoka Lee added 14 against the Tar Heels. Lee set a school record for double-doubles against UNC with her 52nd career double-double.

North Carolina (5-1) will face the loser of the Iowa-FGCU game on Nov. 26. The Tar Heels were led in the semifinals by Deja Kelly, who had 14 points.

North Carolina trailed by 10 points at halftime but fought back in the second half to cut the game to three points in the final minute. Kansas State used free throws to ice the game in the final seconds.

Selection Sunday for the NCAA Women’s Tournament is March 17, 2024. The First Four will tip off on March 20, with the Round of 64 beginning March 22.
