The Delaware men’s basketball team is coming off a mediocre season that saw the Blue Hens turn in a 17-16 overall record and 8-10 mark in Coastal Athletic Association action. They were bounced from the quarterfinals of the CAA Men’s Basketball Championship by Towson.

However, head coach Martin Ingelsby already proved his squad can succeed, as he led the Blue Hens to the 2022 CAA Tournament title and a berth in the 2022 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship. 

That success earned him a contract extension through the 2028-2029 season last summer, and the upcoming campaign will be his eighth as the head coach at Delaware.

Though they quietly landed in the middle of the CAA standings last year, the outlook from across the conference is better for the Blue Hens this time around. Delaware was tied for fifth in the 2023-2024 CAA Men’s Basketball Preseason Poll, voted on by the league’s head coaches.

The team will return seven players from last season, and seven new faces have been added, including six transfers.

Among the new additions to the Delaware roster are 6-foot-9 forward Tyler Houser from VMI, 6-foot-5 guard Gerald Drumgoole Jr. from UAlbany and 6-foot-5 guard Niels Lane from Florida.

From those returning, senior forward Jyáre Davis was a second-team All-CAA selection during the preseason polls. He was on the All-CAA third team last season after averaging 15.3 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.

The Blue Hens are smart, too, with five players being named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court, which includes junior, senior and graduate students who finished the last school year with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.

Will book smarts translate into basketball smarts and success? Only time will tell.

When Is The CAA Men’s Basketball Tournament?

The 2024 Jersey Mike’s CAA Men’s Basketball Championship will be held March 8-12 at the Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington, D.C.

The winner will earn an automatic berth into the Division I Men’s Basketball Championship. 

When Is The 2024 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship?

The NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship. The NCAA Tournament. March Madness. No matter what you call it, March belongs to college basketball.

Selection Sunday, which will fall on March 17, is the day the 68 teams for the postseason bracket are announced. 

The First Four will kickstart The Big Dance on March 19-20, with eight teams (the four lowest-seeded automatic qualifiers and the four lowest-seeded at-large teams) battling for the opportunity to compete in the main 64-team bracket. This will take place in Dayton, Ohio.

The road to the national championship will continue with the opening round of play (Round of 64) across eight locations on March 21-22. Those same venues will host the Round of 32 on March 23-24.

On March 28-29, four new locations will welcome teams and fans for the Sweet 16 (regional semifinals), which will be followed by the Elite Eight (regional finals) on March 30-31.

The 2024 Final Four (national semifinals and national championship) will be held at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, on April 6 and April 8, respectively.
