The 2025–26 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women’s basketball season tips off with familiar expectations at the top and plenty of intrigue across a balanced league.

Grand Valley State, the reigning national champion, opens as the unanimous preseason favorite after a 38-2 campaign that ended with the Lakers claiming both the GLIAC and NCAA Division II titles.

Led by Nicole Kamin, the 2025–26 GLIAC Preseason Player of the Year, Grand Valley State aims to extend its dynasty behind depth, defensive pressure and scoring balance. Northern Michigan, Ferris State, Parkside and Wayne State complete the projected top five, each returning veteran cores that have proven postseason potential.

Northern Michigan’s Jacy Weisbrod, Ferris State’s Kadyn Blanchard, and Parkside’s Cassidy Arni headline the all-conference preseason list after standout 2024–25 campaigns. Wayne State’s size and rebounding presence, anchored by Taylor Thompson, make the Warriors another threat in the upper tier.

With the top seven teams all featuring returning all-conference performers, the GLIAC race promises depth, physicality and experience. Every matchup, from powerhouse Grand Valley State to rising Roosevelt, will stream live on FloCollege and FloHoops, spotlighting one of Division II’s strongest leagues.
