When Does The NCAA Division III Basketball Season Start?

The 2026-27 NCAA Division III basketball regular season can begin Friday, Nov. 6, 2026.

Teams do not all begin their seasons on the same day. Individual schedules vary by school, but Nov. 6 is the first date for regular-season Division III basketball competition in 2026-27.

Men's and women's programs across the country already have games scheduled for opening weekend.

Can NCAA Division III Basketball Teams Play Before Nov. 6?

Division III teams can participate in permitted preseason exhibitions, scrimmages and joint practices before the regular season begins.

Those preseason contests should not be confused with the start of the regular season.

That means fans may see a Division III program on the court before Nov. 6, but its official 2026-27 regular-season schedule can begin Nov. 6.

When Does NCAA Division III Basketball Practice Start?

NCAA Division III basketball teams can begin preseason practice before the first regular-season games in November.

The NCAA maintains separate rules governing preseason practice and competition, meaning the first day teams can practice is not the same as the first permissible regular-season contest date.

When Are The 2027 NCAA Division III Basketball Championships?

The 2027 NCAA Division III men's and women's basketball championships conclude in March 2027.

The men's championship is scheduled for March 18-20 at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The women's championship also is scheduled for March 18-20, with the final rounds taking place at Alliant Energy PowerHouse in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Who Won The NCAA Division III Basketball Championships In 2026?

Mary Washington won the 2026 NCAA Division III men's basketball national championship, while Denison won the 2026 NCAA Division III women's basketball national championship.

Mary Washington defeated Emory 75-73 to capture its first Division III men's basketball national championship.

Denison also captured its first national championship, defeating Scranton 55-41 in the 2026 Division III women's basketball title game.
