Tyson Etienne can't wait to get to Peach Jam.

The 6-foot-3, 186-pound shooting guard from Long Island Lutheran (NY) has a training camp this week with his PSA Cardinals team before heading off to Peach Jam next week — which you can watch live right here on FloHoops.

"We had not the best regular season but honestly we have the knowledge and the talent," he said by phone. "It's just about us going out there and playing with a complete effort. If we do that, which I believe we will, I think we have a good shot of coming out there and being very successful."

Etienne averages 7.4 points and 2.1 rebounds while playing alongside guards Cole Anthony and Joe Toussaint. The Cardinals are 8-8 entering Peach Jam.

Etienne benefits from playing alongside both players, especially Anthony, who is being courted by Duke, Kentucky, Villanova, Oregon, and Louisville, among others.

"I think it makes me better," he said. "During the high school season, I'm on the ball. And with PSA I play off the ball a little more. He's someone who demands a lot and your game can't be off, or he'll tell you about it. I enjoy playing with Cole."

On the recruiting front, Etienne took an unofficial visit to Seton Hall last week and will also visit VCU in August.

"I went to Seton Hall last Monday," he said. "Coach [Kevin] Willard is very intense but he seems like somebody that really wants the best for you. His kids can really vouch for him and he's someone who really cares about you on and off the court, just for your future in life, after your playing days. I like the whole coaching staff.

"Coach [Grant] Billmeier and coach [Duane Woodward] were some of the guys that were on my visit. It was a great time being able to watch the guards work out, seeing how hard they go, seeing how the coaches were in the workouts. And the guys seem like they had a strong bond, so it was a good visit. I really liked it a lot."

As for VCU, "Just in talking with the coaches, they really like my game. They like what I bring to the table. They like the upside that I have. In my game, I have to work on everything and they see the upside that I have. They say they really like me and they really want to get me down to VCU."

Among other schools recruiting him are Marquette, Illinois, and Cincinnati.

"I don't have any other scheduled visits," he said. "I'm seeing how the summer goes."

Etienne also expects a lot of colleges to check him and his teammates at the joint PSA Cardinals/NY Jayhawks Combine on July 22 at Westtown (PA) School.

"A lot of those schools will be coming to the Combine on July 22, so I'm looking forward to seeing those guys up there," he said.

As for a timetable, "I don't think I'll wait too long until the spring but I don't know if it will be early fall," he said. "I doubt that."
