No. 2 UCLA Women's Basketball Makes Statement In Win Over No. 6 UConn

No. 2 UCLA star Kiki Rice nearly had a triple-double as the Bruins run away from Paige Bueckers and No. 6 UConn at the Cayman Islands Classic.

No. 2 UCLA (5-0) jumped all over No. 6 UConn (3-2) in the most anticipated game of the Women's Cayman Islands Classic, but the resilient Huskies roared back several times during the nightcap of the first day in George Town before falling 78-67.

After UCLA went up 20 points against UConn, the Huskies went on a furious pace in the second quarter to cut the lead to five. But the Bruins bounced back in the third quarter and regained control of the game as UCLA beat the Huskies at John Gray Gymnasium. 

UCLA's Kiki Rice went toe-to-toe with 2021 National Player of the Year Paige Bueckers of UConn as the pair combined for 55 points. Rice finished with 24 points, shooting 60%. Bueckers scored 18 in the first half and finished with 31.

Rice's stat line was impressive. Along with the 24 points, she finished with 11 rebounds and eight assists. UCLA star guard Charisma Osborne added 18 points. 

The game was the first without Azzi Fudd for UConn. The star guard is out for the year with a knee injury. 

The matchup of the top-10 ranked teams capped a thrilling day that featured a No. 7 LSU win without Angel Reese and Virginia Tech surviving a feisty Kansas team.
