More than 100, 131 to be exact, NCAA Division II men’s and women’s basketball programs compete in the 12 states that make up the Midwest Region of the United States. If you thought that was a lot, there are 231 NCAA Division III men’s and women’s basketball teams that compete for a chance at the National Championship title.

Of these 362 programs, there are several that are worth watching. Unfortunately, I don’t have the time to break down every team. Instead, I’ll give you five D2 and D3 men’s and women’s basketball teams to watch during the 2026-27 season.
Grand Valley State Women’s Basketball, GLIAC, NCAA D2
If Grand Valley State wasn’t already on your watch list, it needs to be.
The Laker ladies are coming off back-to-back NCAA D2 Championship titles, most recently with a 72-49 win over Indiana (Pa.) in the 2026 title game. Last year, GVSU went 36-1 overall and 19-1 in GLIAC play and swept conference regular season and tournament titles for the fourth straight season.
The reigning five-time conference champions were, unsurprisingly, picked to finish first in the GLIAC preseason coaches’ poll ahead of the 2026-27 campaign. They earned all 10 of the opposing team’s first-place votes and a perfect 100 points in the poll.
Watch the No. 1-ranked Lakers live all season long on FloCollege beginning on Nov. 10 as they take on Spring Arbor in Allendale, Mich.

Michigan Tech Men’s Basketball, GLIAC, NCAA D2
Ranked 14th in the FloCollege D2 Men’s Basketball Preseason Rankings, there’s no doubt that you should tune into this D2 team.
Michigan Tech, located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula (Marquette, Mich.), was picked third in the GLIAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll with a pair of first place votes and 83 points overall.
Last season, the Huskies went 29-7 overall and 16-4 in conference play. They fell to Grand Valley State 82-70 in the GLIAC Semifinal game. But that didn’t stop them from making a playoff run. They took down three opponents en route to the Elite Eight, including Grand Valley State (69-67). No. 3-seeded Gannon got the best of them, as they exited the playoffs in a 75-49 decision.
The Huskies return 11 players from their 2025-26 Elite Eight squad and have added a transfer and five freshmen. Watch sixth-year head coach Josh Buettner lead Michigan Tech’s men on FloCollege, live on Nov. 19 as they face Concordia-St. Paul in Houghton, Mich.
Walsh Men’s Basketball, G-MAC, NCAA D2
We couldn’t get away without mentioning No. 9 Walsh men's basketball.
The reigning Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Champions were voted preseason No. 1 by conference coaches, receiving five first-place votes in the poll. The FloCollege voting team favored Walsh, too, ranking them ninth in our top 25. They’re the only school in the G-MAC to find a spot in the FloCollege rankings.
The Cavaliers look for continued success in the 2026-27 campaign after having the most successful season in program history. Walsh swept the G-MAC regular season and tournament titles, posting a 17-3 record in conference play (29-3 overall) before the postseason. The Cavs punched their ticket to the playoffs, collecting two wins before Michigan Tech defeated Walsh 80-70 in the Sweet Sixteen.
Walsh opens the 2026-27 campaign on Monday, Nov. 9, in Detroit, Mich., as they face GLIAC competitor Wayne State, live on FloCollege.

Baldwin Wallace Women’s Basketball, OAC, NCAA D3
Baldwin Wallace went undefeated in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) during the 2025-26 season and posted an overall record of 25-4. They won the OAC regular-season championship and earned a bid to the NCAA D3 Tournament - will they do it again?
The OAC Coaches voted Baldwin Wallace to finish in second in the annual preseason poll, awarding the Yellow Jackets 60 points and four first-place votes. They hardly trail the 2026 OAC Tournament Champion Otterbein, who collected 61 points and five first-place votes.
OAC Coach of the Year Cheri Harrer returns for her 37th season at the helm. The Yellow Jackets return three starters, all of whom have a veteran presence on the court.
Baldwin Wallace opens their home season on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m. as they host Trine in a non-conference matchup. Fans can tune into the action on, you guessed it, FloCollege.
Mount Union Men’s Basketball, OAC, NCAA D3
Last, but not least, is RV Mount Union men's basketball.
The Purple Raiders are coming off a successful 23-4 season. They went 14-2 in the OAC to claim the regular season title and earn a bid to the NCAA D3 Tournament. Although they may not be returning head coach Mike Fuline, who stepped down to pursue a Division I opportunity, they do return reigning OAC Player of the Year Elijah Farrington.
Despite coaching changes, the OAC saw success in the Purple Raiders, picking them to finish first in the Preseason Coaches’ Poll. Mount Union was awarded 62 points and six first-place votes, ahead of Otterbein's 54 points and 2 votes.
RV Mount Union kicks off their 2026-27 campaign with a home battle versus Franklin and Marshall on Friday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. The game is part of the M Club Classic, which showcases four D3 teams across four games. Watch the matchups live on FloCollege from Nov. 6-7 (duh).
