No. 18 North Carolina rallied late and fought off an upset bid at the Gulf Coast Showcase against Vermont on Nov. 24 in Estero Florida. The Tar Heels overcame a poor first half to surge ahead against the Catamounts late in the fourth quarter for a 54-51 win. 

Vermont led at halftime 28-17 and held that second half lead until UNC closed the gap in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. The Tar Heels took a 50-49 lead with 1:46 left to play. 

The game came down a out-of-bounds call with 11 seconds to play. The ball was first given to Vermont, which would have given the Catamounts a chance to win. But the call was overturned after a review and UNC was able to hang on to win.

UNC was led by Deja Kelly, who scored 18 points. 

Emma Utterback scored 18 points for Vermont.

UNC's path to a possible matchup against No. 5 Iowa in the championship game remained alive, but the Tar Heels will have to beat Kansas State in the semifinals at 5 p.m. on Nov. 25. Iowa plays Purdue-Fort Wayne at 7:30 p.m.

Vermont will play in the fifth-place consolation bracket against Western Kentucky at 11 a.m.
